In Feng Shui, the five elements Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water – are the basis for understanding the flow of energy in any space. These elements represent natural forces that interact with each other, creating balance or imbalance in the environment. Each element is associated with specific colors, shapes and areas of life, according to the Bagua.

Understanding the five elements in Feng Shui is like learning a secret language that connects your home to the energy of the universe. When used correctly, they help to harmonize spaces, improve relationships, attract prosperity and even boost health.

Now, let’s learn about each element and how to apply it in Feng Shui.

Cycle of the five elements in Feng Shui: productive, exhaustive and destructive.

The 3 Cycles of Interaction of the Five Elements

  • Productive Cycle (in green) : Each element supports the next – Wood feeds Fire, Fire generates Earth, Earth produces Metal, Metal leads to Water, and Water nourishes Wood.

Example : To activate Wood with a plant, choose a blue pot (Water) to reinforce the element. Make sure that Water appears in smaller quantities to maintain balance.

  • Exhaustive Cycle (in yellow) : Each element "drains" the other to sustain itself – Wood reduces Water, Water reduces Metal, Metal reduces Earth, Earth reduces Fire, and Fire reduces Wood.

Example : If the environment has a lot of Metal, like a room with white tones, you can balance it by adding cushions in earth tones and some ceramic pieces to harmonize the energy.

  • Destructive Cycle (in red) : Some elements "moderate" others – Fire melts Metal, Metal cuts Wood, Wood consumes Earth, Earth blocks Water, and Water extinguishes Fire.

Example: If you are in doubt between a white and blue or white and red object, choose the first, as Water strengthens Metal, while Fire weakens it.

By understanding these cycles, you can balance the elements in your home to promote more harmony and positive energy!
